An Evening with Chris Letts
The Croton Yacht Club is privileged and honored to present and evening with Chris Letts on Friday March 21st starting at 7:30PM. Longtime educator for organizations such as the Hudson River Foundation and the Clearwater, Chris Letts has spent decades working on the Hudson as a commercial fisherman, researcher and teacher. In an intimate and interactive setting, Chris will share his extensive knowledge about Hudson River fish and the importance of the local ecosystem on the health and future of this great fishery. Do not miss this opportunity to interact with and lean form one of the last true Hudson Rivermen.
Secrets of the Deep
On Friday April 4th starting at 7:30 PM at the Croton Yacht Club, Dr. John Ladd from the NYSDEC Hudson River Estuary Program and Hudson River National Estuarine Research Reserve will review results from the Hudson River bottom mapping project that has been ongoing since 1998.  The project surveys have revealed fields of shifting sand and mud that are critical habitat for bottom-feeding fish including two species of sturgeon both of which are on the federal endangered species list.  Surveys have also revealed large patches of ancient oyster reefs in the Tappan Zee.  Numerous ship wrecks some of which have great historic value have been imaged by project sonar.  Dr. Ladd will discuss survey techniques, survey results and ongoing research focused on understanding how bottom-feeding fish use their habitat.  An introduction to the mapping project can be found at http://www.dec.ny.gov/lands/87303.html
