FAA's proposed new flight plan for take-offs at Westchester Airport
The following message was sent by County Executive Andy Spano:

Dear Chief Elected Officials:

We are very concerned that the FAA's new flight plan for take-offs at Westchester Airport, if ultimately adopted and implemented, would affect your municipality. According to the limited information we have received, the re-routing proposal would bring new noise patterns to parts of Rye Brook, Hawthorne, Pleasantville, Briarcliff, Croton, Ossining, Buchanan, Peekskill, Yonkers, Scarsdale and Hastings-on-Hudson.

The proposal is unacceptable not only because hundreds of thousands of people would be affected by noise, but also because of the significant security risk of planes flying directly over Indian Point. Incredibly, it appears that many of the aircraft departing our Airport would be routed directly over the nuclear power plan at Indian Point, a possibility we view as a significant risk that is not acceptable and must be avoided.

I have written to the FAA to express my grave concerns about the adequacy and content of its draft environmental impact statement (DEIS). I hope you and your constituents will contact the FAA as well. Tell the FAA that they need to do a Supplemental Draft Environmental Impact Statement because the information they have given us is inadequate and violates their own procedures for full disclosure so that affected parties could make informed comments.

In order for your views to be included in the official record, the FAA must receive them by July 1st.

Please help us spread the word to your constituents and refer them to our web site www.westchestergov.com where an email can be sent to the FAA.  Further information on this issue is also available on our web site.

Over the last eight years, we have worked hard to follow a "good neighbor policy" for the airport, which means the county has taken many steps over the last eight years, often working with the FAA and with the airlines, to mitigate aircraft noise around the airport. The FAA proposal would undo much of our work and good.  To e-mail the FAA without using our website you can use this link: faa.deis@ngc.com
