Quadricentennial Committee Formation
2009 marks the 400th anniversary of Henry Hudson's exploration and discovery of the Hudson River Valley. In honor of this occasion, as well as the 200th anniversary of Robert Fulton's first steamboat voyage in 1807, New York State will officially celebrate the Hudson-Fulton Quadricentennial between July 4 and October 4, 2009 with a series of public festivals, events and programs.
The communities along the Hudson River have been asked to plan an event that can be attended by visitors who will come to experience the Quadricentennial Celebration, for example: a festival, bus tour of the village, special exhibit at museums and galleries or an event relating to the Hudson River's history.
Mayor Schmidt is seeking applicants who are interested in the Chairperson position of the Quadricentennial Committee. The Chairperson will be responsible for organization of the committee and any necessary subcommittees; coordination of the interested agencies (Historical Society, Village, School District and local businesses); and development of event concepts. Individuals who wish to apply should send a letter of interest to:
