Village Well Fields
Water Safe to Drink!
At approximately 7:30 am Tuesday August 7, 2007 while the Village of Croton on Hudson Water Department was changing chlorine cylinders at well house # 1 the valve on one of the chlorine cylinders malfunctioned. This caused chlorine gas to be released into the atmosphere. Well # 1 was immediately taken off line. The other two Village wells, Well # 3 and well # 4, were put into service. There was no interruption in the water supply to Village residents. The water system was safe to drink throughout this event.
The atmosphere around the well field area was declared free of any chlorine gas at approximately 9:30 am.
The malfunctioning chlorine cylinder was sealed and removed by 11:00 am.
Well # 1 was put back online around noon.
There never was nor is there any problem with the Village water. The Village water is completely safe to drink.
