“Croton Bike Week” announced for September 14-21, 2008
[Croton-on-Hudson, NY] The village of Croton-on-Hudson and its Bicycle/Pedestrian Committee (BPC) of community volunteers are designating September 14–21, 2008, as ÒCroton Bike Week.Ó The week-long campaign is designed to promote bicycle use and road safety in three life-style arenas–Bike to Shop, Bike to School, and Bike to Train–and will culminate in one day of special Croton Bike Week rides on September 20, 2008.
Croton Bike Week opens with the annual Golden Apple Rides on September 14th  sponsored by Westchester Cycle Club and closes with the inaugural Toughman Half Triathlon on September 21st.  Westchester Cycle Club will also sponsor the Croton Bike Week Rides–open to all–on September 20th to celebrate the week-long cycling awareness campaign.
The week’s Bike to Shop component engages local business owners and residents directly in raising bicycle awareness. More than thirty local business owners will offer discounts to bicyclists from September 14th through 21st.
The Bike to School component will encourage responsible school age children to ride bicycles to school that week. Bicycle racks are available at both the Croton-Harmon Districts three schools, and the Croton Free Library on Cleveland Drive.
The Bike to Train/Bike to Work component will encourage local residents to realize the potential cost savings and health benefits of switching from fossil-fuel based commuting to human-power commuting.
Five Special Croton Bike Week Rides on Saturday, September 20th.
On Saturday, September 20th, Westchester Cycle Club is sponsoring five rides for all experience levels at various paces and distances. All rides depart from Croton-Harmon High School parking lot. See this webpage for details on these special Croton Bike Week rides:
