Croton offers Community Compost Bin and Rain Barrel Sale Day on April 17th
[Croton-on-Hudson, April 7, 2010]. For the second year, the Village of Croton-on-Hudson has arranged a “truckload sale day” of compost bins and rain collection barrels with green vendor Rainbow Environmental Products on Saturday, April 17th from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Croton-Harmon Train Station parking lot A. This lot is on Croton Point Avenue between 1 and 1-A Croton Point Ave directly across from the Metro North Train Station.
The Village of Croton-on-Hudson actively supports an emphasis on sustainability. Last year’s event moved nearly 200 compost bins which represents nearly one in ten households within the Village. This year’s effort has been expanded to include a rain barrel collection system which is connected to a down spout. There will be brief informational sessions on best use, techniques for maximizing potential, and accessories for sale at cost.
Compost bins, at the cost of $55.00 per bin, will allow homeowners to recycle leaves, grass clippings and vegetable kitchen scraps to create natural mulch for gardens and lawns. The removal of these recyclables from the solid waste stream is both cost effective for the taxpayer and is an ecologically sound way to enhance one’s garden.
The rain barrels, at the cost of $75.00 per barrel, is a great method of reducing strain on the municipal water works and allows the resident to use pure natural rain water to irrigate gardens and lawns.
Both items need to be pre-ordered to insure availability. Order a compost bin by April 14, 4 pm and receive a kitchen scrap bucket (a $5.00 value) free. These items are cash or check only payable upon pickup. Checks are payable to Rainbow Environmental Products. This is a rain or shine, cash or check only event. You must pick up your item(s) on the day of the sale only.
