Annual Bike-Ped Safety Week in Croton: 3 -11 September 2011
The Village’s 2011 Annual Bike-Ped Safety Week will take place during the first full week of September this year from Labor Day Weekend through September 11th.  The week will be bookended with bicycle related events in our area.
Golden Apple Ride: On Sunday, 4 September 2011, the Westchester Cycle Club’s Golden Apple Century Ride will include a local segment from Teatown to the Croton Dam and back out on Route 129. For details, visit:
Toughman: On the following weekend, the Toughman Triathlon- with half Ironman distances of a 1.2 mile swim; 56 mile bike ride; 13.1 mile run–will take place.  On Saturday, 10 September 2011, the Toughkids Triathlon–comprised of shorter distances to keep the race within the park–starts at 9:00 AM for contestants as young as 4 years old at Croton Point Park Beach. This event will also include a vendor exposition at Croton Point Park Beach on Saturday.
On Sunday, 11 September 2011, the Toughman Triathlon starts promptly at 7 am at Croton Point Park Beach with the swim segment as the first leg.
The public is invited to watch the races on both Saturday and Sunday and to tour the exposition on Saturday.  The bicycle leg of the Triathlon will take place on Village surface streets and Route 129 (Maple Street). The running leg will take place on surface streets in the Harmon neighborhood to and from the Croton Gorge Park and Dam.
For details about race routes, visit : http://www.toughmantri.com/
Bike or walk to River Day:  The Croton Yacht Club will be hosting its third annual “Hudson River Day” celebration on Saturday, September 10th. ~11 AM - 4 PM at the Croton Yacht Club located at 6 Elliot Way in Croton-on-Hudson. This location has limited parking. Therefore, in the spirit of Bike-Ped Week, the Village encourages River Day visitors to ride a bike to the Yacht Club, or to arrive on foot over the Route 9 Pedestrian Bridge via South Riverside Avenue at Brook Street or from a more remote parking location.
Bike to School: Croton Schools open on Tuesday, Sept. 6th. Biking to school is encouraged, particularly during Bike Week. Helmets are required. The Village encourages safe bicycle handling practices. Students should have adequate locks for their bikes.
Bike to Train: More and more residents are using two-wheeled transportation to get to and from the Croton-Harmon Train Station and other destinations in the Village.
In response to the rise in the number of mopeds being ridden by train commuters, the Village will shortly be installing a new larger bicycle rack at the train station that will be dedicated to smaller motorized two wheelers, such as mopeds and scooters. Its installation has been delayed by the clean up effort following Tropical Storm Irene.
